這是2006年最後一筆大併購案了，還記得去年十二月初時，轉載了Francisco Partners收購Elsevier旗下的自動化系統廠商Endeavor的訊息，沒想到耶誕節一過完，月底就看到最近一期的Library Journal，報導自動化系統廠商的龍頭SirsiDynix被收購的消息，報導指出SirsiDynix是被一間私募基金公司Vista Equity Partners所收購(大家對私募基金應該有點印象，我們的上市公司日月光就是被一間叫Carlyle Group的私募基金公司收購的)，不過Library Journal也也引述一位Laurentian University的系統館員Dan Scott在其部落格的文章，表達了SirsiDynix有可能會調漲服務費或調高年維護費的憂慮，這個部落格的討論串還滿有意思的，很多回覆相當深入，例如有一位叫Lissa在討論串中提到：”如果一間公司將它的重心轉移到不是客戶，而是錢的時候，可能代表她們會有一些轉變”，有興趣的可以參考看看。
SirsiDynix也在它的網站發佈了此消息， SirsiDynix Announces Investment Partnership with Vista Equity Partners，SirsiDynix的執行長Patrick Sommers說這是兩間公司的重要里程碑，我想的確是，畢竟經營成效良好的公司，才能受到這類型私募基金的注意，而SirsiDynix的組織目前也沒有聽說有調整的狀況，也不曉得未來Vista Equity Partners會不會要SirsiDynix上市。
說起Sirsi與Dynix原本是兩間公司，Sirsi創立於1979年，Dynix創立於1983年，在2005年中的時候，兩間公司宣佈合併(Sirsi and Dynix Announce Merger)，此舉讓當時的SirsiDynix成為擁有全球四千家以上客戶的最大自動化廠商，目前仍穩居寶座，現在的SirsiDynix仍在超過40個國家中擁有四千家以上的客戶，在台灣SirsiDynix似乎也有不少的客戶，是否會如Dan Scott所說的會漲價，就不得而知了。
備註：Vista Equity Partners 是一家位於舊金山，擁有1億美金的資金，年營業額13億美金的私營股票基金公司，專注在技術產業的投資，主要包含下面四種產業。

Hello there !! Welcome to my blog
前不久看到XXC’s Blog上有有一篇links for 2006-10-29，介紹了一個網站 icebrrg ，它提供免費的Web Form（進階版功能較多要付費），想說如果圖書館作一些意見調查時還實用的，就來試試，不過發現不能用中文，真是可惜，所以就打英文來做個試驗啦!!以下是成品。
美國研究圖書館學會(ARL)出版了Health Sciences Library Statistics 2004-05
美國研究圖書館學會(ARL)每年都會出滿多的統計資料，最今它們出版了一份健康科學圖書館的統計資料，ARL Publishes Health Sciences Library Statistics 2004-05，網站上有訂購紙本的價格，但是也提供網路免費下載的服務，目前有PDF檔跟Excel表的格式可供下載，它提供的那個Excel表還滿貼心的，裡面是調查的數字。
稍為瀏覽了一下，這個統計調查了北美113間大學圖書館（有包含加拿大的大學），共有67間回覆，這67間大學圖書館的館藏量其中位數為243,011冊，共僱用2,537名全職員工（嚇1，平均每館有近38人耶），各館總支出加總為美金$229,669,155（嚇2，算一算要七百多億台幣耶，那我們的五年五百…唉！還是別提了），在電子資源方面（electronic materials）共花費了美金$40,211,607，其中電子期刊（electronic serials）佔了美金$36,656,698，算了一下，平均大約是每校花1千8百萬台幣在電子期刊上，而芝加哥大學採購電子期刊的經費最高，她們花了6千多萬台幣。
館比館真是氣死人，不過美國學費收那麼高，也不是沒有道理的至少相對的資源也比較多。

對於圖書館週的兩個小建議
今天Rosalin又在HEMiDEMi共享書籤網站的圖資世界群組中推薦了這個新聞，《達文西密碼》裡的圖書館員。其實《達文西密碼》我只看了電影，因為通常只要有電影的，我幾乎都不看小說，覺得很花時間，簡單的說就是懶啦。
但是看了新聞的敘述，感覺《達文西密碼》作者應該是常利用圖書館的，不然怎麼熟知這些流程，不過這倒是令我想到了一個做法可以用在圖書館週當中，就是劇中提到蘭登教授請圖書館員協助查詢，而我們的圖書館週常常辦很多活動，如果也可以將樣的活動安排進去，應該滿有趣的，就是圖書館先從館藏中(紙本或電子資料庫)查到一些資料，再配合一些歷史故事，然後出一些謎題請同學解謎，若解題時間長的話，可以請同學採用事先先組隊參加，若是只有一個上午或下午，可採現場報名，這樣不僅可以讓同學感覺到在館藏中，其實很多寶藏的，至於要不要事先註明，不能透過搜尋引擎，限館藏資源的，就看各館狀況了。
另外還有一個比較瘋狂的想法，在圖書館週，其實我們可以為圖書館找代言人的，這代言人限校內老師或學生，不找明星，當代言的同學，在圖書館週開始前，要為圖書館宣傳，在開始時，要進行導覽之類的工作，那之前的選拔跟獎勵方案，其實就可以先炒熱圖書館週的氣氛了，而終點是，一定要為這些代言人拍美美的宣傳照，這樣比較有fu啦。 ^_^

【網站】音樂性網站 TheMusicSack
寫圖資部落格的好朋友，Peter Scott's Library Blog，簡短的介紹了這一個TheMusicSack，音樂性的網站，不過大家別誤會，這不是下載MP3的地方。
不同的人名，也都有超連結可以連到此網站的其他條目，不知道這樣的網站對學音樂的朋友，或是相關的館員們，會不會有幫助，因為音樂實在離我太遠了。
一、簡介:
這是一個音樂性的資料庫，一個個人的網站，站長透過University of Toronto的協助，取的大部分資料後，再繼續增加。
二、收錄範圍:
包括各種類型與各年齡層的音樂，只有文字資料，沒有各式影音的檔案。
三、收錄內容:
內容是與音樂相關的一些人、事、地等的事實性的資料，主要的目的是用做索引的功能，有超過1千5百萬筆的資料。
四、資料類型:
(1) 1,000,000 (One million) people
(2) The location of 1,858,376 articles and books that have information about these one million people (click the quantity to see more information)
(3) 8,963 Groups and bands and the 26,958 people who have played in them
(4) 880 churches and cathedrals and the 7,900 people who have made music in them
(5) 11,793 concerts given by 1,956 pianists
(6) 151,482 individual (musical) performances given at 153 theatres
五、心得:
其實我對音樂不在行，連五線譜我都看不懂，簡譜旁邊我得要寫注音才能知道發音，所以我就簡單的在尋找人(Search for People)底下用職業(By Occupation)這個選項來做搜尋，我下的關鍵字是librarian，共找到433個人，找到的資料條目敘述很少，例如這些館員裡面，有一個叫Zaun, Marian Virginia的，她是女高音，引用的資料來源是"Chicago: Who is Who in Music, 1951, 576 p."，那如果是查樂團(Search for Bands and Groups)的話，我用U2去查，也就只有這樣的資料:
